Some wellness items I have been loving lately

There are certain items that simply have a feelgood factor about them. Items that I reach for (almost) daily and that make my life just a touch sweeter. These items are not miracles or must-haves or anything revolutionary, but purely items that sprinkle a little happiness into my life. That is why I wanted to share these items with you today. I won’t make any promises that your life will change for good with these items, as some bloggers might have us believe. But I do believe these items can nonetheless provide a little comfort on dark and rainy days.

1. Acupressure mat

As I mentioned in this ‘week in the life’ post, I received an acupressure mat for Christmas. An acupressure mat is a mat with little spikes on it, not unlike a less scary version of a bed of nails. It is supposed to help with back aches and sleep. Whereas I wasn’t too sure about the effects a few weeks ago, I can now say I sleep a lot better on nights I do a little meditation on my acupressure mat before bed. Of course, the meditation will help as well, but I like the added element of the acupressure mat to destress my muscles.

2. Gua Sha

Ah, how I love gua sha! Of all the items in this list, this one might be the most revolutionary. I have been using my gua sha tool for over six months now. Gua sha is basically an ancient Chinese massage technique that uses a stone tool to apply pressure to the skin. There are loads of excellent tutorials to teach you a simple massage routine for your face. Gua sha is supposed to help with the firmness of the skin and therefore work to prevent wrinkles. For me the main benefit has been the release of tension headaches. I tend to get mild headaches from staring at a screen all day at work and loosening my facial muscles with gua sha completely gets rid of them. (Slightly) life-changing!

3. Weighted Eye Mask

My old yoga studio used to have these weighted eye masks that you could put on your eyes during shavasana (the relaxation pose at the end of a yoga session). It not only helps to block out any light during the meditation, but the weight on the eyes is somehow very soothing. I loved those eye mask so much that I had to buy one when I happened to see them in a shop a few months ago. It is truly the perfect touch for shavasana. I sometimes use this mask to help me fall asleep as well, so it’s a versatile little thing.

4. Yoga Spray

This is another item I got inspired to buy by my yoga studio. The teachers at the studio always set the mood of the practice with a nice fragrant yoga spray. Spraying this in my own house before yoga helps me get into the right mindset for the practice. But I also spray the scent before any other mindfulness activities, such as meditation, journaling or even before I cosy up on the couch to watch a movie. Having the room smell relaxing instantly makes me feel more relaxed.

5. The 6 Minute Journal

I have had this journal for only a few weeks (another item I received for Christmas). The 6-minute journal asks you to write down three things you are grateful for in the morning and three things that went well that day in the evening. To be honest, I didn’t like using the journal at first, because I was trying too hard to stick to a daily habit. Once I let go of the need to use the journal every day, I now enjoy to focus on some gratitude in my life every few days.

Do you have any good wellness items?

Uuh, that beanie sounds incredible. I love lavender scents to relax, so I will definitely look into that!

I’ve never head of Gua Sha before but it sounds incredible, especially after hours of staring at a screen all day! Love that you’ve included a journal too because that has to be one of my favourite wellness items. Ever since I started journalling properly again, I’ve been able to offload so many niggling thoughts, and it’s a great way to practice gratitude too!

I am completely hooked on Gua Sha! Yes, I love freestyle journalling as well, but I like the 6-minute journal for its structure.

I love the idea of the weighted eye mask. I need an eye mask to fall asleep every night because any small amount of light in the morning tends to wake me up. So having a nice weighted one would hopefully stop it from slipping off my face as I move around, which definitely happens sometimes. I’ll have to look into finding a weighted one next time I’m going to replace my current one.

Yes, I do love a weighted eye mask. The only thing I would look out for in a future one is the added luxury of a lavender scented mask, but that is easy to do yourself by using some essential oil.

I very nearly got this journal before i was given the ‘line a day 5 year journal’, but actually use it as a gratitude record – writing down my ‘silver lining’ from the day 🙂 Like you I was negative about the routine/ worried about pressure at first, but i now find it helpful! It means, whatever storms came that day, i can always look back and hold onto one smile <3

Yes, focusing on something positive, even on bad days, is so helpful for a good mental state. And in the end, it doesn’t really matter which journal we use, does it?
